Tower of Babel - international meetings in Wrocław

It's Thursday and this simple fact inspired me to write a post about 'Tower of Babel' initiative.

As the description in their Facebook group truthfully claims, these are "multilingual meetings in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere". They take place on Thursday evenings in Chopper Bar in Kotlarska 42 (5 minutes from Rynek).

When you come to Erasmus, there is a framework in place which helps you meet new people. In case of other expats these meetings are just perfect opportunity to encounter the locals. (Especially to get to know Polish people, because a lot of Poles show up at Chopper). There are many regular comers, so it is not just a random group every time, it's rather a community.

Personally I do not like Chopper bar, so I won't elaborate on the place. But there are special discounts for beer.

The meetings start around 7:00 pm. 'Working languages' are multiple (of course English dominates). There are also associated initiatives like German or English meetings on other weekdays but I haven't attended those.

And here's their Facebook page:

If you are quick, you can still make it to today's meeting!

  1. I personally prefer less crowded meetings than the Tower of Babel. I like for example English Conversations Wrocław: www.facebook.com/EnglishConversationsWroclaw, where I can really hear what others say :) Those are definitely less international meetings, but - in my opinion - are much more effective :)

    1. I have never been to those particular conversations but in Wrocław there are definitely many conversation tables worth attending :)
It's true that Tower of Babel is crowded and loud, but on the other hand a lot of people come there, so if your aim is more socializing than learning a language it's a good choice.
