You come to Wrocław as an exchange student or to work here. Your command of Polish language is limited to "cześć", "dziekuję", "jesteś piękna". You might ask yourself a question: do I have to give up doing things that I love so much, like cinema or theatre?
The answer is "No!"*
Here are some opportunities:
1. Cinema
Unlike in Germany or Austria, films in Polish cinemas have subtitles. Only movies for children, or movies for both kids and adults (like 'Shrek') are dubbed. So as long as you know the original language you can enjoy going to the movies.
What is more: Nowe Horyzonty cinema has recently started showing Polish movies with English subtitles, so English speakers are able to enjoy Polish cinema from now on.
2. Theatre
There are plays with English subtitles in "Teatr Polski" from time to time.
Just look for the symbol of the British flag in the repertoire:

I really recommend going, as it is one of the best theatres in Poland.
3. Books and newspapers in foreign languages
There are a lot of books in English at Empik chain, especially the one in Renoma shopping mall. With other languages it is much more difficult - you will find some in so called "księgarnia językowa'" (language bookshops) specialized in selling handbooks. There are a few in the city centre.
As for newspapers: I usually buy them at Empik. Not all popular ones are available (e.g. it's not a problem to get "Der Spiegel", it is a challenge to get "Die Zeit"). It is much easier to get weeklies than dailies.
4. Libraries
As I experienced in my neighbourhood, public libraries offer some books in English - of course, their offer is not as big as of the Polish titles but you will find some.
