How to get to Wrocław?

(Poles, you do not need this one, so I'm writing in English).

Let's say, you are for Erasmus in Prague or Kraków and you would like to spend a weekend in Wrocław, or the other way round - you stay in Wrocław but you would like to visit attractive cities nearby. You have probably already heard some of those stories about Polish railway not always being reliable and not enough motorways in our country.
So here he will find some advice, which mode of transport to choose!

First of all:

Airport in Wrocław

Here is their route map: http://airport.wroclaw.pl/en/passager/route-map/

The good thing about this airport is that it is really situated in Wrocław.

You can get to the city centre by bus in about 30 minutes.
The bus number is 406. Here is the timetable for "Port Lotniczy" bus stop: http://www.um.wroc.pl/rozklady/przystanki/406_20_2.html
For the city centre leave at "Arkady" or "Dworcowa" bus stop.

As far as internal flight in Poland are concerned: I have never tried them. Wrocław has such connections with Warszawa and Gdańsk.

No connection in Wrocław? You can check Katowice airport. It is about two hours by car from Wrocław.

Wrocław-Kraków

If you have a car and money for petrol - go by car. In no case take a train! It takes hours and you will lose half of a day for journey. Take a bus instead.

I can recommend Lajkonik bus or Link-BUS to you, because I have taken these buses one myself. The bus ride costs about 30 zł and takes 3-4 hours. There are other companies as well.

Wrocław-Warszawa

I'll be honest with you - there is no good connection between Wrocław and Warszawa.

There are direct trains but either via Poznań or via Katowice and it takes 5.30-6 hours - one look on the map and you will see yourself that it isn't a straight line.

Another option here is Polski Bus http://www.polskibus.com/en/timetable It takes 6 hours.

Wrocław-Prague

My friends recommned Polski Bus http://www.polskibus.com/en/timetable
By train you have to change at least once.

Wrocław-Berlin

Car is definitely the best option here, but good to know that there is also a direct train. It is called "Wawel". The journey takes about 5 hours. Polish PKP have special offers for this connection from time to time http://intercity.pl/pl/site/pojedz-za-granice/oferty-promocyjne/od-19-euro-do-niemiec-w-ec-wawel.html (like 19 euros for a ticket to Berlin)

Wrocław-Dresden

There are direct trains to Dresden, so when in Wrocław use this opportunity!
